T-Bone Walker: "Stormy Monday"

Sometimes English with McCabe must play a song.  Give  T-Bone Walker a listen, if you like. Here he is playing "Stormy Monday" and telling us--sorry, Rebecca Black--what "Friday" is really all about.

Now, how good was that? Here's the lyrics:

They call it stormy Monday,
but Tuesday's just as bad
They call it stormy Monday,
but Tuesday's just as bad
Wednesday's worse,
and Thursday's also sad

Yes the eagle flies on Friday,
and Saturday I go out to play
Eagle flies on Friday,
and Saturday I go out to play
Sunday I go to church,
then I kneel down and pray

Lord have mercy,
Lord have mercy on me
Lord have mercy,
my heart's in misery
Crazy about my baby,
yes, send her back to me

  5. I love the song! So fitting for the day. I hope from time to time more music gets posted! I love the way music sets the mood for the day. Maybe next time "Tuesday afternoon" by the Moody Blues should be played before our Tuesday 1A class :) I wish I would have seen this Stormy Monday piece before I went to bed last night. Next time I'm going to check the morning of class just to be completely updated. Thank you for putting this up Mr. McCabe! Nice touch!

  7. I actually really like this song, and the Rebecca Black one was originally a Bob Dylan song, and I guess people gave her the credit for it but here's a link to the song if you'd like to listen to it

  8. Kary,
And what is really amazing, Bill Shakespeare gave Bob the idea. They had just run into each other in Rio, when Bill said to Bob . . . . Whoops, gotta go. Late for school.

  10. May I add something from Kary's comment?
If you look at the Bob Dylan--original version--has 13,415 people like, but Rebecca Black has 500,000 people DISLIKE!! just wow.

ps. for T-Bone Walker, his song even though has similar meaning to the song called "Friday," but it is way more classic and more chill to listen. I like it when he sings "eagle flies on Friday"
because I understand that it is a metaphor that on Friday your independence flies like an eagle. love that!

  11. Very fascinating voice and peaceful harmony.
It was just a way too long and stressful day for me. I needed something like this to get me out of stress and finish my day in peace.
Thank you for posting it mr.McCabe!
